Independent Program

The Independent Program is three years in duration with rotations in four freestanding health care systems. During these three years, residents learn general plastic surgery, burn surgery, facial and hand trauma surgery, microsurgery for correction of traumatic and oncological defects, pediatric plastic surgery including cleft lip and palate, and cosmetic surgery.

Graduates of this program assume positions in fellowships and enter both academic and community practice.

Although all appointments at Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center are made for one year and must be renewed annually, satisfactory performance will ensure completion of the entire three year curriculum and will qualify the trainee for the examinations of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

The Independent Residency Program accepts one applicant annually. This program is designed for applicants that have successfully fulfilled the American Board of Plastic Surgery requirements.
Applications are accepted through the San Francisco Match, while selected applicants will be invited for a personal interview.
