Lisa R. David, MD

Dr. Lisa David is Professor and Program Director of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Wake Forest University. She has been on faculty at Wake Forest since July of 2000. She is clinically and academically very active. She is also dedicated to medical missions and does one to two trips per year to third world countries travelling now to more than 10 countries. Her areas of interest are pediatric and craniofacial care as well as resident education.

Dr. David was born and raised in Marion, Indiana. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan with a Major in Biology. She attended Indiana University School of Medicine and graduated with honors. She married her husband after medical school, and they have been married for over 23 years. She did her general surgery residency at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan from 1991 to 1997. She completed her plastic surgery residency in 1999 at Wake Forest University. She then did a Craniofacial fellowship in Paris, France with Dr. Marchac and in Goteborg, Sweden with Dr. Claes Lauritzen. She joined the Wake Forest Department of Plastic Surgery in 2000. She has been board certified in Plastic Surgery since 2001 and participates in MOC.

Since joining the faculty in 2000 Dr. David was initially the Assistant Program Director of the Residency and has been the Program Director for 10 years. During Dr. David’s tenure at Wake Forest she has transitioned the residency from an independent program after general surgery to a fully integrated plastic surgery residency. She has developed a resident mission program so that all of her graduating residents get third world training experiences. She has also developed an ongoing teaching relationship with the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Moldova and has helped train 4 of their surgeons. She helped develop the ACAPS online curriculum and serves as co-chair.

During that same time period she has become a full Professor. Dr. David has been involved in more than 50 IRB studies, done 134 national presentations, and written more than 100 papers during that time period. She has been active regionally and nationally in many of the plastic surgery interest groups including the International Society of Craniofacial Surgery, American Society of Craniofacial Surgery, ACPCA, North Carolina Society of Plastic Surgery, ASMS, AAPS, ASPS to name a few. She also writes questions for the annual in-service exam - Craniofacial Section and is an Oral Board Examiner for the American Board of Plastic Surgery.  She is also an editor for the Craniofacial Journal and Cleft Palate Journal and a reviewer for Annals of Plastic Surgery, and the European Journal of Plastic Surgery. She has been involved with ASMS for more than ten years and is excited to be one of their Visiting Professors this year.
